China's seventh national population census will begin on Nov 1 this year with about 7 million staff to visit homes for registration work. The Chinese population census takes place every 10 years. It gathers data including name, age, ID number, gender, education, job, marital status and housing situation. New methods will also be used during this census, including online information registration, application of electronic devices and big data.
From Oct 1, Shanghai citizens who alert authorities to food safety incidents could get higher rewards for tip-offs, according to the Shanghai Administration for Market Regulation. Those who inform the government of these acts may receive up to 500,000, while the previous maximum was 300,000 yuan. The increase aims to further encourage tip-offs and strengthen Shanghai’s food safety. The violations include unlicensed producing and selling of food and adding banned additives.
According to a report published by the China Internet Network Information Center in September, the internet penetration rate in China has reached 67 percent, about 5 percentage points higher than the global average. Moreover, the number of internet users in China reached 940 million as of June, accounting for one-fifth of the world’s total.
